Bizen Vase by Kaneshige Michiaki
Michiaki Kaneshige(1934-1995) was the first son of the legendary Toyo and helped his father for many years, including visits by Rosanjin, Noguchi and many, many of Japan's most famous potters of the 20th century that went to the Kaneshige kiln to create works. Michiaki was a fine potter in his own right having won the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 1979 and also being designated an Okayama Prefectural Intangible Property in 1990, as well as having an illustrious exhibition career. Here is a very handsome vase with a superb sangiri(charcoal introduced to the kiln) firing that has multiple color tones--come alive when wet--as well as a kabuse-firing on the neck, where another piece filled with rice-straw was placed upside down over the neck. A very shibuii work that dates to the late 1970s-early 80s, in perfect condition with a signed box, 20.5cm.tallx14.5, stamped on base.
