Large Kabura ('Turnip') Tokkuri-Vase by Hoshino Sei
Here is a large kabura-turnip tokkuri by Hoshino Sei(b.1959). Based on large Momoyama period (late 16th-early 17th centuries) 'boat flasks,' this size is more suited for flowers--or standing as is--than a deck of sailors these days. The firing is called kabuse-yaki where a bowl was placed over the neck resulting in a non-ash touched area and crimson reds from straw inserted in the bowl. The full-rounded body has an intense varied toned firing that make this a very engaging work of art. In perfect condition with a signed box, 30cm.tallx33.2, stamped on the side.
