Three Ash-Glazed Vases by Noda Satomi
Noda Satomi is a new ceramic artist to the gallery, and the more we look the more we like. Her slab-formed vases offer four distinct sides to her very distinctive textures and tones. All of Noda's works are porcelain and she creates here unique textures by the way she slices the slabs as they come out of a roller. Her soft green glazes interact with the white porcelain and textures to create engaging impressionistic 'landscapes' of sea and mountains. We have a few works to offer at this time and we'll start with these three vases. Each is in perfect condition with signed boxes a bit extra, the smallest is 30.3cm.tallx12.4-7; the next is On Reserve and is 38cm.tallx12.2-13; the tallest is 42cm.tallx12.7x13 and is On Reserve. Noda's works have been selected-awarded for the 36th Women's Association of Ceramic Art Exhibition (2005), as well as being accepted into various regional juried exhibitions: she began her ceramic path about twelve years ago at the age of 28. Working for a textile design firm didn't satisfy her Muses, so she self-taught herself ceramics using space at the Gifu Prefectural Ceramics Research Institute; she established her own kiln in Nagoya in 2002.
