New Works by Gomi Kenji
Gomi Kenji(b.1978) is one of Japan's most talked about and sought-after younger ceramic artists of the day. Right now his works are being shown at two museums here--Paramita and MOA. His works recall Noguchi Isamu sculptures as well as, obviously, stone formations. Each two-piece artwork stand alone as ceramic sculpture, or the tops can be removed with the bases used for flowers; in any way the works are dynamic and haunting. In 2011 Gomi has won numerous awards including the Encouragement Prize at the 4th Kikuchi Biennale and the Japan Ceramics Award at the Japan Ceramic Art Exhibition; his work was also shown in a group exhibition at the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Art Museum. These new works highlight his original forms and surface textures; the far left is 49cm.tallx30x29; the middle is 45cm.tallx20 and the right is 46cm.tallx31x26, signed boxes.
