Tsubo-Jar / Kohiki / Toki / Yoshida Yoshihiko
White Slip-Kohiki Jar by Yoshida Yoshihiko
Veteran Mino potter Yoshida Yoshihiko(b.1937) is a potter like that of long ago. Leading a simple and quiet life in the hills of Toki, he works from an old farmhouse full of spiritual craft works from the world over. These are his teachers as was the first Living National Treasure for Shino, Arakawa Toyozo(1894-1985). Yoshida's work is simple but very deep- like the man himself. More about Yoshida can be read on www.e-yakimono.net He's also been written about in 'Japanese Studio Crafts' by Rubert Faulkner. Here is a fine shirokesho (white slip) jar with meandering line that Yoshida created by swiping the piece. He held it on the base and one can see finger impressions there. The inside is special as well. This work is vibrant and alive, as all good pottery should be. In perfect condition with a signed box, 21cm.tall and 20cm.across.
