Gallery Debut of Veteran Kyoto Artist Kobayashi Hideo
Kobayashi Hideo(b.1951) is a Kyoto veteran ceramic artist who has had a most stellar career after graduating from the Kyoto University of Art in 1975; his first award came soon therafter in 1980 at the Kyoto Prefectural Arts and Crafts Exhibition. The list now includes Excellence Prize, 7th Japan Ceramics Exhibition and the Mayor’s Prize, Kyoto Art Exhibition('83, and the latter also in '86), Three Grand Prix's in '87 at the15th Chunichi International Contemporary Ceramics Exhibition, Kyoto Prefectural Arts and Crafts Exhibition, and Kyoto Art Exhibition Prize, the list goes on and on with highlights including the Highest Honor at Nitten in 2006 and 2008. Kobayashi's works are also favored by celebrated Ikebana masters, especially in the Ohara School; they glisten in the light and truly capture the mind's eye. It's quite hard to believe he hasn't been shown in the US or mostly anywhere outside of Japan. I hope we can change this by introducing his museum quality sculptures, of which we have three medium-sized ones here. At his studio yesterday there were some larger works, some exhibited at past Nitten exhibitions and photos gladly sent of those, please contact Robert. The first one here was on a past Kyoto exhibition DM card and has, like all Kobayashi's works, a most intricate and fascinating texture, here almost something weaved. It's 26cm.tallx47.5x16.6; the others please look at the captions and additional information can be viewed in this link, simply highlight it and then click the right mouse, open link in new window: http://www.japanesepottery.com/private-gallery.php?item=1492&key=dgvle6k8
