Exhibited Bizen Ko-Kabura Vase-Tokkuri by Mori Togaku
In the spring of 1990 Mori Togaku had a major exhibition at Mitsukoshi, Tokyo for his 2nd O-gama firing (large kiln, Mori's being 53-meters long) that was lit the previous Sept., the firing was stopped in Nov., and the unloading began in Jan. of 1990; the exhibition was a major success. The exhibition catalog even sold out in the first few hours. In that now legendary exhibition there were only two ko-kabura (small turnip) pieces exhibited and this is one of them. I have it on my desk as I write this and the form is very soothing indeed; plus the contrast on the upper hemisphere of vanilla-toned clay with the hidasuki-scarlet cord markings is sublime. The lower hemisphere is also engaging with all that goma splashing over the full hidasuki band. In perfect condition with a signed box, 15.7cm.tallx15, stamped on base. Mori held this piece a few weeks ago and stated "what a beautiful work indeed, it brings memories." Copies of the catalog along with the exhibition price list will be included.
