Shigaraki Yohen Flower Hachi-Bowl by Sako Yoshihiro/Previews.
We've been waiting a few years now for Sako Yoshihro(b.1972) to complete and fire his anagama in Shigaraki and finally that was accomplished late last year. Sako was born in Nara and studied under the late great Tsuji Seimi for three years starting in 1992. Afterwards he studied Kutani pottery for a short time. He set up his pottery in Shigaraki in 2000 yet fired a gas kiln then, then relocated to a different part of Shigaraki with the same kiln, using other's anagama to fire; it was only last year, as noted, that he finally built his own anagama, and true to form of a Tsuji apprentice the firings are superb. We selected a few works and here is the first; an intensely fired oval deep hachi-bowl with a varied natural ash-glaze surface and an interior-pool caked with ash. On the front and back one can see a rough Zen incised Enso. A powerful hachi that Sako said is for flowers, yet we also see it for use on the table or simply for display. In perfect condition with a signed box, 14.2cm.tallx28.8x24.4 signed on base. Preview photos and details of other works gladly sent on request, prices noted in captions.
