Oribe-Glazed Hagi Platter by Hamanaka Gesson
Hamanaka Gesson (b.1943) is a multi-talented ceramic artist who established his Hagi kiln in1969; he's had an amazing career ever since with fans throughout Japan and the world. He's known not only for his traditional Hagi wares yet also for his hybrids where he combines various glazes and clays not seen in Hagi before. Here is such a work, a signature paddled-ripple textured platter with an Oribe glaze over the fine stoneware clay; parts of the exposed clay have a rusty orange 'fire color' tone. In perfect condition with a signed box, 3-4.6cm.tallx29x30, signed on base; a museum piece for the table.
