Saigyo(1118-1190) was a famous Zen monk-poet who poems are loved by the Japanese; a quick web search will reveal more about this legendary figure. This is an early 20th century Tsutsumi-yaki (folk kiln located in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture) that has charm and elegance; in perfect condition with a signed box, 10cm.tallx12.5, stamped Tsutsumi on base.
