Nezumi-Shino Chawan by Hori Ichiro/Ki-Seto in Exhibitions Page
Beyond a shadow of a doubt one of today most important Mino potters is Hori Ichiro (b.1952). He makes some of the finest Shino, Nezumi-Shino, Setoguro (Black Seto) and Ki-Seto (Yellow Seto) in Japan today, period. Hori is a mago-deshi or 'grandchild apprentice' to the great past Living National Treasure Arakawa Toyozo(1894-1985), as Hori studied with Kato Kozo (current Living National Treasure for Setoguro), Arakawa's apprentice way back when. There is something pure about Hori that comes through in his work, especially his throwing on the wheel as he listens to Schubert and other classical music in his mountain studio. We're featuring his Ki-Seto in our exhibition page--please be sure to visit that page, link found on our main page--as well as this Nezumi-Shino chawan, a Shino chawan and a Setoguro chawan(On Reserve), all stunning. This Nezumi-Shino chawan is 9cm.tallx13.5x12.5; please notice the very alive kodai-footring on this and all his chawan.
