Karatsu Guinomi by Tsuji Seimei
Tsuji Seimei(1927-2008) was a ceramic artist who walked with the gods; his work is pure Japanese aesthetics; more about this extremely important potter can be read at e-yakimono.net. His main style over a long decade was Shigaraki, yet he also fired many other styles other the years including Bizen and Karatsu. Here is a muji-plain Karatsu guinomi with a very fine and solid feel in the hands; I remember at his funeral when Hayashiya Seizo was staring at Tsuji's portrait and talked directly to Tsuji, "No one could throw a pot like you." This can be felt even on his smaller works, such as this guinomi. Wonderful form for drinking, pleasing ash glaze the will greatly change over time, and a perfect kodai that also has a rich 'clay flavor.' In perfect condition with an unsigned box, although there is a wooden plaque attached to the box that reads Tsuji Seimei Gui-no-mi written by the previous owner; never used though. The box factor is important here in Japan and thus the price is reflected in that, with an original box think double It stands 5.5cm.tallx6.5, signed o side.
