Bizen Hidasuki Tea Jar by Harada Shuroku
Hidasuki-rice-straw cord markings were first a buffering technique in a kiln; rice straw is wrapped around a pot and fires to various shades or red and orange; the Tea masters of the 15th-16th centuries took a liking to this method and the rest is history. The thing about hidasuki is that is must be matched with the proper clay to truly bring out its beauty. Veteran ceramic artist Harada Shuroku surely makes some of the finest hidasuki pots in all of BIzen today; this very traditionally formed four-eared tea jar displays hidasuki that acts like ink in an action painting; brilliant in its deep simplicity. In perfect condition with a signed box, 29cm.tallx26, signed on base; Harada is an award-winning artist with work in major private and museum collections, more about him can be read here: http://www.e-yakimono.net/html/harada-shuroku-jt.html
