Kyusu-Tea Pot / Ao-Bizen / Bizen / Fujiwara Kou
Ao-Bizen Kyusu-Tea Pot by Fujiwara Kou
The eldest son of Fujiwara Rakuzan III, Fujiwara Kou (b.1969) is valiantly continuing the unique aesthetics of the Rakuzan kiln which is a legacy of enyu (salt-glazed) Ao-Bizen (blue Bizen) that none have attempted before Rakuzan I. It is a unique aesthetic based on a Shio-gama (salt kiln, only one in Bizen) that coats the Bizen clay with a slightly luminous shine to its body, with soothing, gray and milky kiln-effects, contrasted with bright red and oranges on some works. At once, a viewer can see the elegance of Ao-Bizen, and perhaps this elegance is a reason why many who practice the Way of Tea appreciate the refined beauty of the Rakuzan family's wares. Kou studied sculpture at the Musashino University of Arts and then apprenticed to his grandfather and father; his forms are simple and elegant, with a great cool tinge when held and used. The Ao-Bizen of the Fujiwara's is a unique aesthetic that largely contrasts from traditional Bizen. This kyusu is one of a few Kou pieces we have and is 10cm.tallx16.2from back to spout and holds 300cc; in perfect condition with a signed box. We also have five coffee cups-saucers, three guinomi and tokkuri and a traditional Bizen yohen tokkuri.
