Bizen Jar-Vase by Takahara Satoshi
Bizen veteran potter Takahara Satoshi(b.1934) is known by hardcore Bizen fans for his 'softer-smoother' Bizen and interesting shapes in his 'clay flavor panels.' He started making Bizen in 1956 and has had a relatively quiet, yet very successful career. He has won the Sanyo Newspaper Award at the Okayama Prefectural Art Exhibition(1972) and the Kaneshige Toyo Award(1976). This very pleasing jar has a wonderful 'clay flavor' body covered at the upper portion with classic goma-'sesame'; it also is light for its size and that shows Takahara's mastery on the wheel. In perfect condition with a signed box, 33.5cm.tallx25.7, signed on base and dates to 1988.
