White Tamba Chawan by Ichino Masahiko
As white as Mt.Fuji's snow is the white glaze on this Tamba chawan by the very innovative and quite amazing ceramic artist Ichino Masahiko (.1961), as many of you know. The form is more in line with a RakuXV chawan then Tamba, yet the pockets of exposed clay give the chawan a very earthy-Tamba feel; heaven and earth, to hold a universe. Ichino was selected to show his contemporary Tea vessels a quite fabulous exhibition now being held in Tokyo called 'The Musee Tomo Prize: Contemporary Ceramics for the Tea Ceremony--Free Creativity and Atypical Usage.' Ichino's has two chawan in the catalog. This chawan is In perfect condition with a signed box, 9.2cm.tallx11.5-12.5, signed on base, please do notice the kodai-foot.
