102 Porcelain Figures
A long-time resident of Tokyo--and a friend of mine--has decided to return to the US after 30 years. He collected all kinds of Japanese art from chests to woodblock prints. We'll be offering some of his sake vessel collection next week, as we have in the past. Ed used to hound the antique markets in Tokyo every weekend for a few decades and one of his passions were small porcelain figures. He became famous among the dealers who would often not display such figures as they waited for Ed. Now these are not our specialty, yet the variety and history behind the collection is quite attractive indeed. The figures date to the late Edo-mid Show period--according to Ed--and show many Lucky Gods, Fukusuke, Daruma, Soliders, Sumo wrestlers and animals, among others. Some were used as water droppers while most are purely ornamental. At the markets here Ed said each was between 3,000-25,000 yen and it took him, as noted, decades to create this collection; some he said are rare. We offer this as a set as is with shipping included in the cost to anywhere in the world. Here are some group shots and as much as I'd like to photograph each piece time does not allow. All in excellent condition.
