Large Bizen Rakkyo Tokkuri by Isezaki Jun
As many of you know Bizen's current Living National Treasure(LNT) is Isezaki Jun(b.1936). This makes Isezaki the fifth LNT from Bizen---the highest of any style--joining the late Kaneshge Toyo, Fujiwara Kei, Yamamoto Toshu and Fujiwara Yu. More about Isezaki can be read on on e-yakimono.net. This is a classic large rakkyo-pearl onion-form tokkuri that these days is better suited as a single bud vase-ichirin. It has an excellent 'clay flavor' front and a bluish-gray natural ash-glazed back; the front becomes 'alive' when sprayed and patted with water. It dates to the late 1970s and we sent the piece to Isezaki to have a box made, thus the signed box is recent. It stands at 28cm.tall, signed on base and is in perfect condition.
