Bizen Combed-Kushime Jar by Konishi Tozo
Konishi Tozo(b.1947) is the current master of the Konishi Toko kiln, his grandfather founded the kiln in the 1940. His work is quite dynamic and that is seen here on this tsubo-jar; the form is traditional, yet the firing is charged by the combination of goma-sesame and scarlet red hidasuki cord marking; add to the mix the Rosanjin-style comb-kushime lines that crisscross the jar and we have a very engaging work. Such a piece is a main work at Konishi's exhibitions and on the base is T-2, which leads me to believe it was the second most important work in a past exhibition. In the gallery here we have a few Konishi catalogs and such a jar is shown in each. In perfect condition with a signed box, 30cm.tallx30, signed on base and dates to 1994. Konishi has been awarded the Kaneshige Toyo Prize as well as the Okayama Prefectural Cultural Award.
