Guinomi /
Mumyoi Guinomi by LNT Ito Sekisui
How often do I find Ito Sekisui's guinomi--even by calling him--not often enough! Very limited in his output, here is a masterfully thrown Ito guinomi showing the noted contrast of dark and red clay 'flavor.' A splendid guinomi in perfect condition with a signed box, 4.8cm.tallx7.5, signed on base. Ito Sekisui(b.1941) became the fifth Sekisui in 1977--and was designated a Living National Treasure in 2003 for his mumyoi pottery--and his family started potting on Sado Island in the 17th century. They use a local red clay and thus the color of the wares.
