Square Vase by Mashiko Potter Miyake Yoji
Miyake Yoji (b.1950) is a veteran Mashiko potter who in 1974 apprenticed to Ito Kosho before establishing his own kiln in 1977. I've admired his work for a long time for its Rimpa feel and elegant designs. Here is such a work, tall at 33cm. and each side has sweeping hakeme brush lines over which the lotus design was drawn; a very engaging piece, museum quality. Miyake has shown at the Japanese Traditional Arts and Crafts and Japan Ceramic Art exhibitions numerous times starting in the early 1980s. In perfect condition with a signed box, 14-14.cm. wide, signed on base, exhibition sticker still adhered.
