Kame
19th Century Shidoro Kame
Kame are wide-mouth jars that were used for a variety of purposes long ago; they were an essential item for most homes here in Japan. This one is a fine example from the Shizuoka Shidoro kiln; Shidoro bears a close resemblance to Edo-Meiji period Seto wares with its dark brown glaze, the clay is different though. This kame is a fine example of Shidoro ware with a neat crisp contrast of the hemispheric divide of glazing and clay; comb markings also add a nice touch around the shoulder area. In perfect condition, 26cm.tallx28.3; EMS delivery included until we come to 2009.
