Tsubo-Jar / Bizen
Ko-Bizen Tsubo-Jar, Muromachi/circa 1550-60
Here is a Muromachi period circa 1550 classic Ko-Bizen tsubo-jar with a superb firing and very traditional 'wave' pattern around the shoulder. What also is very neat about this piece is the straight and rectangular deeply incised lines on one side. Also the throwing lines are strong and pronounced. When looking at Ko-Bizen key factors to focus upon are the form, not only of the body but also of the lip, the base, the firing, and marking(s) if any. This is a museum quality piece that was most likely used for flowers as it's too small to be of use in processing soy sauce or other items of the day. In perfect condition with an old signed box, 22cm.tallx16.5.
