Mashiko Tsubo-Jar by Murata Gen
This is one of the largest Murata Gen (1904-1988) tsubo-jars we've ever offered, and we've offered quite a few over the years; please see our archives to view those and also to read more about this important 20th century Mashiko potter. This tsubo has a deep rusty toned iron slip covering a whitish nuka slip; in three roundels Murata yielded his brush like a sword and quickly without hesitation drew in sweeping lines. A similar tsubo is shown in the listing from Murata's major 2004 retrospective exhibition held at the Mashiko Ceramic Art Museum; more photos from that exhibition can be viewed at e-yakimono.net, including the similar tsubo. This tsubo is 28.5cm.tallx27.5, signed on base and there is no box, dates to the 1970s; a box can be made for extra and signed by Robert if desired.
