Jar / Fukumori Morihiko
Tenmoku-Iron Glazed Henko-Jar by Fukumori Morihiko
Here is a rather striking tenmoku glazed jar with overlapping iron bands by veteran ceramic artist Fukumori Morihiko(b.1937). The Fukumori has a regal presence and changes greatly with light coming from different angles; the combed wave patterns also take on a varied light depending on the angle viewed. In perfect condition with a signed box, 28.5cm.tallx24.1x11.3, signed on base. Fukumori's ('Lucky Forest') work has been shown at the Japan Traditional Arts and Crafts exhibition (Dento Kogei Ten) as well as Chunichi International, Asashi, Japan Ceramic Art exhibitions; in 1990 his work was shown in New Zealand at the Fletcher Challenge and a work was purchased by the Auckland Museum. This piece dates to the same year, 1990.
