Bizen Chatsubo-Tea Jar by Harada Shuroku
Based on 15th-16th centuries Bizen tea jars, this contemporary one by master potter Harada Shuroku exudes a strong, confident persona that does not simply copy the past yet brings it into the now; timeless beauty. Walking around Bizen--or any ancient potting town for that matter--one sees 1000s of lifeless copies of all classical forms, uninspired, 'plastic' clay flavor, and just plain boring. Harada is the exception and only one of very few in a town that boasts 100s of potters. Two others that come to mind in Harada's league are Abe Anjin and Mori Togaku. Anyway, upon just gazing Harada's chatsubo one is given life-affirming energy and a solid grounding into the ever-flowing now. In perfect condition with a signed box, 26.5cm.tallx30.4, signed on the also wonderful base.
