Neriage Bokuryu Chawan by Ueda Tsuneji
I've had the privilege to hold quite a few Ueda Tsuneji (1914-1987) chawan here in our gallery, and each one is a wonder. Please see our archives for photos of those and more about Ueda, a very great Kyoto Mingei potter. This chawan is quite appropriately open-faced for summer with a wider neriage(marbled) and bokuryu(flowing ink) facade than on any other Ueda chawan we handled over the years. A light transparent glaze has pooled somewhat to make a light-greenish-blue jewel-esque crackled patch near the pool. It truly is a joy to hold, gaze within and let the mind wander.....In perfect condition with a signed box, 6cm.tallx16.3.
