Tsubo-Jar / Mashiko / Shimaoka Tatsuzo
Mashiko Tsubo-Jar by Shimaoka Tatsuzo
Living National Treasure Shimaoka Tatsuzo passed away last year yet left the world an amazing body of wonderful Mashiko pottery during a career that spanned half a century. Here is a rare circa 1962 jimi-quiet strength chatsubo-tea jar with four lugs. It displays in the purest sense--and the reason why we're offering it--what made Shimaoka a LNT: jomon-zogan inlaid rope patterns. The tsubo is dignified in all aspects of color, form and design. A very fine piece in perfect condition with a signed box, 30.5cm.tallx24, stamped on base.
