Guinomi / Mashiko /
Mashiko Yohen Jomon-Zogan Guinomi by Shimaoka
On my desk as I write this is a price list for a 2004 Shimaoka Tatsuzo(1919-2007) exhibition where it shows guinomi ranging in price from 90,000 yen to 360,000 yen; that's quite a wide gap and the reason is for rarity of firing. This means the higher top priced ones Shimaoka was only able to get one, maybe three if lucky, from any one firing, and the top priced guinomi always is his yohen-jomon-zogan like the one offered here. It's a large full size one compared to other Shimaoka guinomi and has this ethereal aura about it like an ancient cave painting or constellation. In fact, it's better than the one shown in the accompanying catalog for the price list noted. In perfect condition with a signed box, 5.8cm.tallx8.5x8, stamped on base. A museum quality work not to be seen again, I believe, anytime soon.
