May 2008 be as resplendent as this Ajiki Hiro basara chawan! Our first gallery selection for 2008 is a chawan; one of the most important--and least understood--forms in Japanese ceramic art. A chawan is a visual representation of Japan's wabi aesthetic, as well as if one were holding the spirit of the potter. Some say it takes a lifetime to make even just one chawan that will stand the test of time....time. Like a great novel compressed for the hands, a chawan has many stories to tell. Ajiki Hiro understands all this, each frame on this chawan a different chapter with the kodai as the epilogue. In perfect condition with a signed box, 8.8cm.tallx12x11cm; a similar Ajiki Basara chawan is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (more about Ajiki in our archives).
