Tsubo-Jar / Shigaraki
Edo Period Shigaraki Tsubo-Jar
An Edo period Shigaraki tsubo-jar in excellent condition with two small restorations to the lip. It's quite rare to find such a jar in this condition; easily fit for a museum. Natural olive-green ash glaze on front and a heavily pitted stone body; these are known as ishihaze or 'stone explosions' and are a keshiki ('landscape') for such works. For similar examples please see Cort's 'Shigaraki' book or 'The Great Shigaraki Exhibition' catalog. 30cm.tall and 25.5cm.wide.
