Setoguro Box by Suzuki Goro
Setoguro is an odd style of Seto style ceramics; most commonly seen are chawan only (one hardly ever sees a mizusashi or vase per say). Yet, Setoguro made by Suzuki Goro is never ordinary and often on the cutting edge of Seto of any period in history. This holds true for his ceramic boxes as well, some having been stacked thirty tall reaching the ceiling, and this Setoguro Goro box is a celebrated example in a more manageable size. It was featured on the cover of the prestigious Tohsetsu journal of the Japan Ceramic Society, and this issue was celebrating the 60th anniversary of the JCS's founding. It was shown at the JCS exhibition in Tokyo and as noted is on the cover and also shown in the magazine, of which the copy will be included with the box. It's 14.7cm.tallx22cm.x18.7 and has a very modern facade with its black stripes and polka dotted interior. A superb museum quality work in perfect condition.
