Jar / Miyashita Zenju
White Porcelain Jar by Miyashita Zenju
Miyashita Zenju(1901-1988) was renowned as a master thrower creating immaculate forms of the highest order. He not only studied in his native Kyoto, yet also traveled to China and Korea to do research; that was in 1927. He was a leading figure in the Kyoto ceramic art scene throughout his life--his son is Miyashita Zenji--and his works are in the Kyoto National Museum of Art as well as the Kyoto City Museum of Art. Here is a fine white porcelain tsubo-jar with six faceted ribbed sides and three nodes on the shoulder; the form shows Miyashita's fine sense of balance and line. The smooth white white porcelain is perfection in glazing. In perfect condition with a signed box, 25cm.tall, stamped Zenju on base.
