Bizen Nerikomi Leaf Platter by Yokoyama Naoki
What could be better for an autumn table? Before use one should slightly wet this large leaf Bizen platter and then maybe place some greenery on it before placing the main dish; sashimi...or cheese and fruit....whatever it is it will certainly look very appealing. This large Bizen nerikomi-marbled leaf platter was made by Yokoyama Naoki(b.1970) and more about him can be read in our archives. The platter is 7.2cm.tallx55cm.x25.5, in perfect condition, signed on base, box is not included yet can be ordered for a slight charge. "At first glance, one may feel that Bizen ware has a very dark complexion; that its colors are too subdued. But when flowers are placed in a Bizen container or fruit is arranged on a platter therefrom, the Bizen generates a complimentary beauty which enhances the flower or fruit while inviting attention to its own inherent charms as if it had a heart and soul of its own. Its especial beauty is brightened with dazzling, yet still subtle, fascination by moistening the ware with water." Fujiwara Yu,(third Living National Treasure for Bizen) from an essay 'Bizen and I' published in Yu Fujiwara Bizen, 1979.
