Large Oribe 'Boat Vase' by Kouchi Hidetoshi
27.2cm tallx59x16.6cm [box included]/An element of surprise captures our attention with the current collection of Kouchi Hidetoshi. “The kiln I use to fire my pieces is not suitable to fire Oribe, in fact”, said Kouchi. It was built a long time ago using old bricks and has walls over 1m thick. He explained that the kiln reaches a high pressure while firing and the carbon dioxide level is lower than in other Oribe kilns. “Therefore, the heating and cooling process must be carried out slowly”.
