Namako Glazed Jar by Uchida Kunio
Uchida Kunio(1910-1994) was a ceramic artist who was also a craft pioneer in the 20th century making original designs from ashtrays to furniture, much like Yanagi Sori. Uchida's pottery was functional and beautiful, two main premises of the craft movement, and his highly original glaze he is known for is called namako or sea cucumber. This Uchida tsubo-jar shows the speckled beauty of this glaze as it moves from a rather diffused top to a tighter pattern that flows into darkness at the base; magical and I've not seen any namako glazing like this on any other potters work. In perfect condition with a signed box, 18cm.tallx22, signed on base. Uchida won many awards for his craft designs over his long career.
