Mizusashi by Mihara Ken
Here is a rather rare circa 1993 mizusashi by Mihara Ken(b.1958), a very popular award-winning contemporary Japanese ceramic artist, and one whose star is only going to continue to rise. More about Mihara--our first artist we had an online exhibition with in 2002--at e-yakimono.net or in our archives. This mizusashi shows Mihara creating a splendid balance between technique, spirituality and function. The varying gray toned surface covers the rippling wave---or mountain range---design in a very contemplative Zen mood. The form is simple and easy to use in a Tea room, and the black lacquer lid caps the piece with grace. In perfect condition with a signed box, 15.5cm.tall with lidx17, stamped Ken on side.
