Shigaraki Vase by Ueda Naokata III
In Shigaraki the oldest potting families that continue today are the Takahashi and Ueda potters. Today the Ueda family is in the fifth generation--the first Ueda 1805-1891, second 1845-1928, third 1875-1952, and Ueda Naokata IV (1898-1975). Here is a very dignified vase by Naokata III and we can see that a Ko-Shigaraki 'old flavor' here on the square form with bronze inspired 'ears.' Ash glaze was sprinkled on the top before firing and melted in green rivulets. In perfect condition with an old unsigned box, 24.1cm.tallx10.3cmx9.5, stamped Naokata on base.
