Jar / Kawai Takeichi
Square Shouldered Jar by Kawai Takeichi
Kawai Takeichi(1908-1989) had a very prolific career as a mingei potter and kiln manager. He was based in Kyoto and studied with his uncle Kawai Kanjiro starting in 1927 and continued his studies and collaborations with Kanjiro for close to forty years. His pieces are in museums throughout the world and in many private collections. Here is a splendid flowing glaze jar in blue gosu and kaki-persimmon mixed with a white ash glaze that creates a waterfall effect over the side. A lovely effect and a piece one can get lost gazing upon; in perfect condition with a signed box, 19cm.tallx10.5x10.
