Bizen Tokkuri by Matsuda KazanIV
I was lucky to have met Matsuda KazanIV(1936-2003)many times, the first time at a Tokyo exhibition in the late 80s. He was a true, humble Bizen potter--designated an Okayama Prefectural Cultural Property in 2002--who made solid traditional works for Tea, flowers, the table and sake. One of his tokkuri forms that recalls a form made by Kaneshige Toyo is a henko jar form seen here. It's an oval squat form that is like a yokozuna, and then there's the magnificent color not often seen on any works; maybe only a few per kiln firing. Rich, and of the elements, a tokkuri for a true connoisseur, in perfect condition with a signed box, 11cm.tallx9.7cm., signed on base.
