Bizen Square Serving Platter by Kaneshige Michiaki
Michiaki Kaneshige(1934-1995) was the first son of the legendary Toyo and helped his father for many years, including visits by Rosanjin, Noguchi and many, many of Japan's most famous potters of the 20th century that went to the Kaneshige kiln to create works. Michiaki was a fine potter in his own right having won the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 1979 and also being designated an Okayama Prefectural Intangible Property in 1990, as well as having an illustrious exhibition career. Here is a platter that Rosanjin would surely loved to have used to present his culinary treats; a hidasuki roundel centers the piece and is surrounded by goma on one side and 'clay flavor' Bizen rice paddy clay on the other, a great overall balance that Kaneshige surely calculated while loading the kiln. As his father said the most important part of firing a kiln is loading it. A museum piece in perfect condition with a signed box, 3cm.tallx27, stamped on base.
