Tsubo / Shigaraki
Large Meiji Period 'Tiger Fur' Glaze Shigaraki Tsubo
A rare tri-colored 'tiger fur' glaze tsubo-jar dating to the late 1800s from Shigaraki; two-toned pieces are often seen, yet this style is quite rare. It has a Monet mottled effect and the colors make a very impressionistic 'landscape' over the entire large form. It was made in three sections and is a museum piece for any Mingei collection. In excellent condition, there are a few superficial hairlines near the base, otherwise no chips, cracks, etc..Tall at 43cm. One can find a lesser example in Louise Cort's 'Shigaraki' book, plate 44.
