Shigaraki Mizusashi by Takahashi Rakusai lV
An exceptionally fired Shigaraki mizusashi by Takahashi Rakusai lV (b.1925). The Takahashi family--along with the Ueda family--is one of the longest potting families in Shigaraki and is largely responsible for preserving traditions, especially after the second world war. Without the Takahashi's families persistence--like the Kaneshige family in Bizen--the flames of Shigaraki might have been extinguished forever. In 1964, RakusaiIII was designated a Shigaraki Intangible Cultural Property, and I've included a photo of him at his assisted wheel. RakusaiIV studied under his father. This is mizusashi that was placed in a prime spot in the kiln; in excellent condition with a signed box, there is one small nick on the underside of the lid, 16.5cm.tall, signed on base. A truly outstanding Shigaraki firing....
