Shino / Wakao Toshisada
Set of Five Shino Mukozuke by Wakao Toshisada
Born in Tajimi, Gifu Prefecture in 1933, Wakao Toshisada has risen to critical acclaim and popularity for his Shino and other Mino wares; along with LNT Suzuki Osamu and Kato Kozo, he is one of the three great modern masters of Mino. In 2003 he was designated a Gifu Prefecture Intangible Cultural Property holder as well as a past winner of the Japan Ceramic Society Prize, the whole list is too long. His works have been shown the world over and are in important private and museum collections, including the Burke Collection in NYC and the Sackler. His Shino is soft and 'creamy' with a light touch of his brush in iron underglaze designs of birds, pine mountain ranges and grasses as seen on this very fine set of five mukozuke serving dishes. A classic set in perfect condition, each is 5cm.tallx13, signed on base with a signed box. Would make Rosanjin and Arakawa proud....
