White Salt-Glazed 'Flowing' Jar by Iwabuchi Shigeya
Iwabuchi Shigeya(1925-deceased) had a long and illustrious career after he finished his studies with Living National Treasures Tomimoto Kenkichi and Kondo Yuzo. In 1955 he established his Yuyu kiln in Kyoto and exhibited at major galleries and museums here in Japan, including the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. Iwabuchi was also a teacher to many in KyotoAincluding Kako Katsumi, Kishi Eiko and Richard Milgrim among many others. Here is a moving white salt glazed jar with flowing incised lines giving the tsubo a Zen garden feel; quite dramatic, dating to 1974. Also notice the way the lip and neck define the piece with a dignified 'silence.' In perfect condition with a signed box, 26.2cm.tall and 27.5cm.across, stamped on base. The last time we offered such an Iwabuchi piece was in 2002.
