Iga Hachi-Serving Bowl by Suzuki Goro
Today I updated my blog with an announcement of the 2007 Japan Ceramic Society Award exhibition in Tokyo and one outstanding ceramic artist whi shall have some works there is Suzuki Goro. For those who may not know this exceptional artist please visit e-yakimono.net. Here is a rare Iga--not a style he often does--Iga serving bowl, or simply a fine ceramic sculpture. It has a loose, relaxed feel although it is quite thickly potted and heavy--five kg. Inside a gold restoration adds a touch of elegance, while two other gold patches are seen on the base---the intense firing also blistered the hachi with some kamakizu-kiln cracks around the lip, part of the keshiki-scenery of Japanese stoneware. In excellent condition with a signed box, 10.5cm.tallx27x22.5, signed on base.
