Two Chawan—Furutani and Arimoto
Here are two chawan from two of the finest chawan ceramic artists in Japan today, Shigaraki by Furutani Kazuya and Shino by Arimoto Kuugen. Arimoto (b.1963) is based in Hiroshima, yet uses the finest Mino mogusa clay that he personally went to locate in the hills of Tajimi. Arimoto is a passionate ceramic artist who has studied deeply all aspects and styles of Japanese ceramic art and history, he’s also a very humble man with a quiet, deep demeanor. This faceted/edgy chawan has classic Shino glazing and is 11cm.tallx14x12, in perfect condition with a signed box. Furutani Kazuya (b.1976) is also a passionate student of Tea and hand-coils many chawan giving a softer feel, as can be seen on this wonderfully natural-ashed glaze one. Also in perfect condition with a signed box, 8cm.tallx12x11.3, signed on base.
