Hagi Sculpture-Vase by Kaneko Nobuhiko
Born in Hagi in 1951 Kaneko Nobuhiko is a multi-award winning artist including the Grand Prize at the Asahi Ceramic Exhibition in 2004, the 2003 Yamaguchi Prefecture Culture Award, the Grand Prize at the 2001 Mashiko Ceramic Exhibition and the Asahi Ceramic Exhibition Award of Excellence in 1998, among others. His work often departs from the Tea world of Hagi, yet retains all that is good in Hagi–glazes and clay–while bringing his own vision to this fabled style. Here is a classic Kaneko yohen disc sculpture-vase with gohonde colors; the main point of interest though is indeed the rough spreading ‘mouth’ and how the crevices spread over the upper area. The contrast of the smooth body with that dynamic opening is pure Kaneko and very engaging indeed. In perfect condition with a signed box, 29cm.tallx30.1x8cm. signed on base. A Chosen-Karatsu guinomi by the Nishoka Koju (1917-2006) shown for scale. Also now at InsideKyoto: http://www.insidekyoto.com/robert-yellin-gallery
